A Clear Example of Strong Foundations For Success
Let me give you a great visual of why you need to build strong foundations for success.
What's the difference between this…
And this?
Doesn't the difference between those two images clearly show the importance of having strong foundations for success, no matter what it is you're working on or building?
The pyramids of Giza, are believed by archeologists to have been built more than 4500 years ago, which I guess we could say was a LONG time ago.
The Leaning Tower of Pisa was completed about 644 years ago, and began leaning just 5 years after it was completed due to the soft sinking foundation on one side.
If the pyramids have stood the test of time and not begun to lean after 4500 years, can you imagine them EVER leaning?
I take it you answered “no”.
Back in the day, while I was still a commercial pilot, I had to opportunity to fly to Egypt and visit the Pyramids of Giza. Quite spectacular I must say.
Each block of stone is almost as tall as I am. Talk about an engineering feat! Not to mention, on average it took only between 10 to 20 years to complete each. Pretty amazing don't you think?
Interesting facts aside, now you've got to answer an important questions honestly.
Have You Been Building Strong Foundations For Success In Your Life?
Is the foundation for your mind, body and emotions like that of the Leaning Tower of Pisa or The Great Pyramids?
What about the foundation for your health and fitness, relationships, finances, and every other area of your life?
What are you consistently doing every day, to create strong, deep and unshakeable (or un-leanable) foundations for success for every area of your life?
Often, when the foundation for a house is weak, cracks will sooner or later show up on the walls.
When that happens, most people tend to take the easy way out and simply patch up the cracks, thereby temporarily removing the cracks from their view and attention.
But, will the cracks show up again at some point if that approach is used?
Absolutely!
And here's another fact.
Often, the tendency is for people to immerse more time, energy and effort trying to learn new things or skills, create new things, and do new things. It's natural to want the variety that comes with new things, isn't it?
Of course there's nothing wrong with that, and it's even good to be learning new things and be seeking variety.
But what you must also pay attention to is this.
All That You Do In Life, Is Only As Strong And Effective As The Foundation You Have Built Up To Support It
You must invest time and energy to build strong foundations for success that you seek.
You do that by immersing in the “basics” and taking action daily on the small things that are important but don't seem to be producing large and obvious results immediately.
Often people want results fast, so they tend to go for the big things that they think will get them there quicker.
For example, a person who wants to increase his monthly income will likely go for a new and exciting money-making venture (that promises quick gains) rather than putting in the time to track and manage his finances daily, and learn the basics of investing first.
Why You Must Build Strong Foundations First
One guarantee in life is that we are always going to experience challenges or setbacks. Sometimes they are mild and sometimes they are pretty big setbacks.
If your foundation of the basics is weak, those challenges will seem even bigger than they actually are, and will likely cause you to lean too much to one side or even fall hard.
But if you invest time to build up strong foundations, you will undoubtedly be able to handle those challenges more positively and successfully.
Imagine if you invested a little time each day to consistently build strong foundations for success in all the areas of your life.
If you did, I bet that the results and success you get won't be fleeting but instead, will stand the test of time, just like the Pyramids of Giza.
What You Can Do To Build Strong Foundations For Success
There are many things that you can do consistently to build strong foundations for success but here are 10 examples (which I do):
- Use incantations daily.
- Exercise daily.
- Meditate daily.
- Read or learn something a little bit every day.
- Attend workshops or seminars periodically, whether they're free or otherwise.
- Challenging yourself with things you usually wouldn't be comfortable with.
- Talk to one new person every day.
- Track and manage your finances daily.
- Pay yourself first when you get your paycheck every month.
- Begin each day with a glass of freshly squeezed lemon mixed with water.
Although there are 10 things on that list, you'd be amazed at how little time they can take to do.
Most people think if they do something, they have to go “all the way”.
But that's not necessary.
Even if you spend 5 minutes meditating every day, you're building the muscle of giving giving yourself the time and space to be still and quiet.
What are other ways you can think of?
A Few Perspectives To Keep In Mind
You don't want to wait until you're a month away from the biggest interview or exam of your life before you start preparing for it, do you?
You would want to be preparing or studying a little every day. And then, even once the interview or exam is over and you're in your dream job for example, keep learning.
A person who really understands what success takes would anticipate potential challenges that could come up, and prepare for them in advance.
If you're in a sales job or will get into one, you could begin mastering communication or influence skills ahead of time by doing a little each day, instead of waiting to have to deal with a challenging client or customer.
Here's another common one people miss, even if they know it.
Don't wait till you're fat and got a lot of flab around your belly before deciding to go to the gym or begin working out.
Build An Unshakeable Foundation And Take Charge of Your Life
If you take even half an hour to look at all the major areas of your life now, I'm sure you could identify important things that you could be doing consistently every day which you currently are not doing yet.
If you did that, you would be building strong foundations for success in your life, and not leaving your success to luck or hope.
You would be taking charge of your life.
Doesn't that sound like a more empowering way to live?
So, are you up for it?
